Irrecoverable Carbon

Irrecoverable carbon refers to the carbon released from storage by converting forest and other biomass cutting, pulping, burning or other means. The release of such stored carbon contributes to climate change and cannot be rapidly compensated for by fresh planting or other carbon re-sequestering means. Irrecoverable carbon loss and biodiversity loss often coincide, when open lands are converted by human development.
